Xbox One S Release Date Announced

This morning, Microsoft announced a release date for the Xbox One S.  The 2 TB version of the Xbox One S will be launching on August 2nd!

The Xbox One S, announced during the Microsoft E3 conference (you can read my live blog from the conference HERE), is 40% smaller than the original Xbox One.  Microsoft moved a couple things on the console, like placing a USB port in the front of the console as well as adding an IR Blaster to the front.  The S will be able to upconvert your Blu Rays and streaming video to 4K and will offer HDR support for your movies and games.

Microsoft will release a 500 GB ($299) and a 1 TB ($349) version of the console, but release dates have not been announced for those versions of the console.  The 2 TB will cost you $399.  If you want to use your Kinect, you will need a special adapter for the Xbox One S.  Current Xbox owners can request the adapter for free.  If you are not an owner yet, the adapter will cost you $40.

According to the press release, supplies are limited, so head to the Microsoft store or other retailers if you want you Xbox One S on release day.  It will be available for the following regions: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK and United States.

I saw the console at E3, and it is definitely smaller than the current version.  However, spending $399 for another Xbox is a little pricey.  We will keep you updated when we see any Trade-In deals at local retailers.
