E3 Journal – Last Day
In the words of the famous scholar R. Kelly – “My mind’s telling me nooooooooooo……but my body? My body’s telling me yessssssssssss……..”
My body is very happy that E3 is done, but my mind is not. I still feel some awe at the fact that I got to experience something that I have only seen online in years past. The experience was incredible. There are so many nice people willing to talk to me about games that they love. It was crazy interviewing people about projects that they clearly love. My favorite interview was with Mike at Rare. You could see in his eyes and hear in his voice the amount of love he has for his project and for the fans who play his work. What an experience!
I also met great fans and media members. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. I was energized as I heard and felt their passion for gaming. I saw fans make small talk to pass the time. I saw fans give up spots in line and spots on machines so other people could have a chance to play. I met a parent who’s son is a three time cancer survivor. She wanted to foster his passion for gaming by taking him to E3 and connecting with others. She is an inspiration to parents who are looking for ways to support their child’s desire to create are in the form of video games. You can get experiences like this anywhere else, and I will cherish it forever.
In closing, I wanted to give some advice to any 1st time visitors at E3 –
- Don’t just wear comfortable shoes. Make sure they support areas like your heels when you are standing for hours a day.
- Don’t be afraid to ask. Asking allowed me to try a couple games that I wasn’t expecting and allowed me to interview game developers.
- Get emails into marketing reps early. Spots fill up super quick and you need to get your requests in early.
- Please drink water.
- Don’t forget to say Hi to the little developers and companies. They love talking to you and may want to work with you in the future.
- Be patient in lines and enjoy the experience.
I want to thank the fans of this website for your continued support. We went to E3 for you. We wanted to bring you perspectives and opinions about some of the hottest games coming soon Keep visiting GameOctane so we can visit E3 every year! We love you guys and look forward to bringing you more content!
